Boys
Swimmer of the Year
Michael Halaska
Junior, Tehachapi
* Won the area’s only section championship, edging Griffin Bracke of East by .27 seconds in the 100 breaststroke
* Helped Tehachapi to a third-place finish at the Division II meet, winning the 100 breast, finishing second in the 200 IM and swimming on the Warriors’ 200 medley relay championship team
* First team All-Area as a sophomore, second team as a freshman
Diver of the Year
Nick Bailey
Senior, West
* First in the Area meet with 353.80 points
* Won the SYL Conference meet by more than 80 points, finishing with a score of 336.10
* Placed second in the Central Section by less than eight points, scoring 388.83 points
Coach of the Year
Adam Bledsoe, Stockdale
Both Stockdale’s boys and girls teams proved to be the best in Bakersfield this season.
At the SYL Conference meet, the Mustang girls racked up 90 more points than defending champ, Liberty, which finished second.
The Stockdale boys won by an even larger margin. They scored 474.5 points to second-place Liberty’s 350.

* Swam the breaststroke on Stockdale’s 200 medley relay team which won the section championship
* Finished third in the Central Section in the 100 backstroke

* Won the 100-yard breaststroke title at the Central Section meet with a personal best time of 1:07.19
* Swam on the second-place 200 medley relay and fifth place 200 free relay teams, helping Stockdale to a second-place finish at the Central Section meet
* Took first in the 100 breast, 100 fly, 200 free relay and 200 medley relay in leading Stockdale to an area championship
* Third consecutive year on the All-Area first team
Diver of the Year
Hannah Yoder
Senior, Liberty
* Tallied a personal best 458.73 points to win the Central Section championship
* Scored 428.90 points in winning the SYL Conference meet
* Second year on the All-Area first team
Coach of the Year
Bill Potter, Garces
The Rams beat Kingsburg at the Central Section Division II meet, winning both the boys and girls championships.
The Garces girls took that momentum into the section meet at Cal State bakersfield. Potter and his team entered with hopes of finishing in the top 10.
They did that and then some. Led by senior Kelley LeBeau, the Garces girls finished fourth in the Central Section.

* Second in the 500 free at the SYL Conference meet
* Part of BHS relay teams that finished third in the 200 free and second in the 200 medley at the conference meet

* Swam on Stockdale’s 400 free and 200 medley relay teams which both took first at the SYL Conference meet
* Second consecutive year on the All-Area first team

* Won the 200 free and 500 free at the SYL Conference meet
* Part of East’s 200 free and 200 medley relay teams
