btc handicap #5 was a hot one tonight. i had a negative 4 minute handicap, so i got a good view of tonight’s race. first off, andrew’s dad blew by me in the first couple of hundred yards. he placed real high tonight. i believe he won!
i ran up the bike path and only got caught by a couple people and made the turn around in 8th place. when i started downhill, i saw a lot of people real close to me already. my son, nicholas was just ahead of anders and my friend steve was about to pass me.
as i headed down the bike path, i saw candace (north high) and erica (csub) moving along fast. phillip (former driller)Â blew by me just after the summit too. later, i saw david followed by christopher with ariey not far behind. cody (north high) and galvin (former mcfarland) were moving up the hill fast too.
more people passed me and candace (north high) flew by me. at the end of the bike path i was in 15th place. the sun was on my back so i could see the shadows coming and they kept coming. a whole bunch of mcfarland runners flew by me. then david and then ariey passed me.
with a hundred yards to go, i actually caught a few people and with five yards to go, one last shadow rushed up to me. jonathan wykoff nipped me at the tape. my sons were not far behind either.
i think i was around 42nd. with my other two placings (6th and 32nd), i might make the top ten overall by the end of the series. at least, i didnt burn any of my handicap tonight. the last one is in two weeks and i hope to see you there.

Young and out on the field
An emerging generation of gay athletes in high school and college is changing the rules.
By David Wharton
Times Staff Writer
July 28, 2007
Seattle — THE guys in his boat took to calling him “Badger” because of the grimace he wore during races. Part of a junior rowing club that ranked among the fastest in the nation, Lucas Goodman was relentless on the water.
It was a different story on land.
