Jastro pool, previously closed because it was leaking thousands of gallons of water, will reopen Monday for the duration of the summer.
The pool — located on Truxtun Avenue in the Westchester neighborhood — will be open for recreational swimming and lessons.
The two main leaks at the pool have been repaired, David Stricker, a recreation supervisor at the City of Bakersfield Recreation and Parks Department, said Tuesday.
“Those are temporary repairs,” he added, noting that at some point, a decision will have to be made about the pool’s future. The pool was built in the early 1960s.
Jastro pool will open at noon Monday for swimming lessons and 5 p.m. for recreational swimming.
“Rec” swimming will be offered 5 to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday and noon to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. The fee is $1 per person. Stricker said the evening schedule should make it convenient for families to attend. Parents can register their children for swimming lessons at the pool, any Recreation and Parks Department office or online at www.ci.bakersfield.ca. us/recreation/index.htm.
For more information, call the department at 326-FUNN.
Swim for free
In celebration of recreation and parks month and the reopening of Jastro pool, free recreational swimming will be offered at every city pool July 16.
