Californian staff report

RIVERSIDE — Cal State Bakersfield’s Lauren Nolasco, Christa McCann, Lina Nuñez and Katherine Patrick each set personal records Saturday at the UC Riverside Cross Country Invitational on the UCR Farm Course.

The Roadrunners finished 15th out of 22 teams.

Nolasco led the record-breaking Roadrunner quartet by finishing 74th in a time of 19 minutes, 10.10 seconds while McCann finished 84th in 19:17.70. Nuñez (19:29.30) and Patrick (19:34.20) also broke the 20-minute barrier, making Saturday’s race the first time since the cross country program was reinstated at CSUB in 1999 that four ‘Runners have run sub 20-minute five-kilometer races.

With 407 team points, the ‘Runners just missed catching Big West Conference member Cal State Northridge (394) for 14th place.

Led by individual champion Brenda Martinez, host UC Riverside took the team crown with 42 points. Martinez was the only runner to break the 17-minute barrier Saturday, finishing first in 16:52.10.
