there was a big turnout for this years race and no fog. it was overcast but not too cold.

before the race i spoke to our road race mc peter wonderly and wanted to give him a shout out. also check out his website HERE. pete always does a good job and adds a lot to every event he works.
the race got off to a safe start and hundreds went flying by me at the choke off point at the end of the parking lot.
i walked out to around the 5k and 10 k split off point and took more photos and videos.
i waited for the runners to come by with coach boyles of csub. found out his team will be going to arizona the next couple weekends to run in indoor meets.
later, i talked to ryan lucker (5k winner) and he told me he is looking forward to running the 800 indoors and is looking to go sub 1:55.

boyles and i were at around the 2.5 mile point and the first runner to come our way was galvin with ryan close behind.
then there were a whole bunch of mcfarland runners and csub’s xc coach Maija Rohde was in front of some of mcfarland’s varsity boys. she ended up 6th overall in the 5k and ran sub 17:30 i believe. very impressive!
speaking of mcfarland, i spoke to their coach and their track invite should be a good one. it will loaded with distance relay events like the distance medley, 4 x 800 and the 4 x mile.
April 12 - McFarland Invitational (CE) will be a must see meet!
besides mcfarland, i also saw some ridgeview, east and bhs runners out there. ariey, edquist, van matre and christoper were all under 40 minutes for the 10 k and sarah baker ran in about 45 minutes. her little sister, maggie ran a quick 5 k too.
lina (5k) and erica (10k) of csub both ran good times today too.
the 5k was won by csub’s ryan lucker and Maija Rohde. the 10 k was won by mcfarland’s GALVIN GONZALEZ and pam boyles.
complete results will take awhile to be finished and i will post them when i find them.

valley is thursday and i believe our girls run at 1:30 and the boys run
at 3:30. the top three teams qualify and then:
Individual Qualifiers
A Maximum of five (5) individuals (not on an automatic team entry) per the
criteria in each division will qualify from Section to State meet finals. Sections entering Three teams - Individuals must place in the top 14 at section finals to qualify.
so to make it to state in division one, you need to be one of the five fastest individuals and be in the top 14 in the race.
so last year in the boys race. 1. Madera 26 (80:43); 2. Buchanan 55 (81:59); 3. Clovis East 69 (82:47) made it as teams. no individuals qualified.
the highest kern athlete, cody gragg (north) came in 20th in a time of 16:53. in the 2006 girls race. 1. Buchanan 18 (94:16); 2. Madera 75 (99:35); 3. Clovis East 96 (101:10) made it as teams. three individuals qualified. jennifer dittman (centennial) 19:46, monica morley (centennial) 19:52 and candace carlson (north) 19:24.
The Valley meet will be conducted in five (5) divisions. Schools will compete in the division determined by the previous year CBEDS, grades 9-12. If a school incurs a gain / loss on enrollment of a minimum of fifteen percent (15%) in the current year (October 2007 CBED), then the October 2007 CBED enrollment figures shall be used in place of the 2006 CBEDS enrollment figures to determine the school’s division for 2006 (per CIF Bylaws)

what a nice day for a cross country meet. it was cool and cloudy and the racing was hot. i have not found the complete results (i will post them when i get them). but i do know that mcfarland won the varsity and frosh/soph boys team races. the girls varsity team race was close and i dont know who won.
chris schwartz (foothill) and candace carlson (north) ran away with the individual titles. i spoke to chris a bit and he was please with his race but just missed breaking 15 minutes. he also told me that someone stole his batman cape that he wore at mt sac. he is looking forward to next weekend’s chess tournament (he won a trophy last year) too.
i look forward to him winning a state title. speaking of state titles, i think mcfarland will be getting one this year. they got amazing depth, great coaches and are fierce competitors. it has been a pleasure to be able watch them and chris run this year at many meets.
on thursday, we return for the league meets. the seyl races should be good ones. the highland boys are undefeated and there is a three way tie for second (foothill, bakersfield and liberty). the battle for second behind chris in the individual race should be good too.
on the girls side, foothill is undefeated and bakersfield’s only lost was to foothill. so if bakersfield wins the league meet. then foothill and bakersfield will be co-champs. the individual girls race should be between foothil and bakersfield too.

at the rough rider invite we went sub 90 minutes.
11th out of 21 teams (avg. 17:54 total 89:29) 5000 meters (woodward).
spread 1:24
which is almost 6 minutes faster than our valley 2006 time!
11th out of 14 teams (avg. 19:03 total 1:35:13) 5000 meters (woodward).
spread 1:59
in fact, last year 5th place bullard ran 89:19 and 6th place centennial ran 1:29:21 at valley

The McDonald’s Rough Rider Invitational will be held Friday, October 12, 2007 in Fresno, CA. The meet will be held at historic Woodward Park, home of the California Interscholastic Federation State Cross Country Championships. This is a 5000 meter (5K) certified course.
just got home but wanted to write a quick report. our varsity boys and girls ran well. sara baker medaled (top 25) in the girl’s large schools varsity race in a time of 19:49 (PR) and christopher anderson (my son) medaled (top 25) in the frosh/soph large schools race.
i will be adding results and photos asap.
