local athletes get some dyestatcal love HERE.
the day started out good. coach steve was early and so was the bus. everyone was in uniform and we headed up to BC. it was cool, cloudy day but the competetion was hot.
the drillers looked great in warmups and set the tone for the meet.
the day started with the high hurdles and our team looked good despite never getting to run on a proper track. plus there were timing problems and lane confusion in the results. who knows what they really ran.
i shot some shot action of collin and joel warming up. you can hear the crowd when collin lets loose on one.
the girl’s 1600 was run in two heats. sadly the heats were not seeded at all. so the top girls didnt run against each other. our sarah baker took the lead after lap two and won her heat and got second overall.
in the boys 1600, chris schwartz won but didnt take the lead till lap two. he won easily in 4:32 and our mccarthy came in fourth in 4:48.
to be continued …

FRESNO — Foothill High School cross country coaches Arron Rietz and Paul Contreras saw Chris Schwartz blow away the competition three years ago at a frosh-soph race.

Foothill High’s Chris Schwartz, right, outsprints, Trabucco Hills’ Riley Sullivan, near the finish line Saturday in Fresno during the state championship cross country championships. Schwartz took first and Sullivan came in second.
“We said right then that Chris could be a state champion by his senior year,” Rietz said. “He made it a year early.”

Schwartz, a Foothill junior, passed Trabuco Hills’ Riley Sullivan with about 600 yards to go in the 3.1-mile race and outkicked Sullivan to the finish line to capture the state championship for Division I boys.

Four local runners win individual titles
Three schools capture team titles
By JEFF EVANS, Californian staff writer, e-mail: jevans@bakersfield.com | Thursday, Nov 8 2007 11:29 PM

At the 1-mile mark, Foothill High’s Chris Schwartz was among a pack of nine runners.
At 2 miles, it was down to a pack of five.
And then he made his move.
Gaining speed on a downhill slope to pull away, Schwartz maintained the lead the rest of the way to win the Central Section Division I individual cross country title Thursday with the fastest time of the day, a 15-minute, 31-second mark over the 3.1-mile course at Woodward Park. what a nice day for a cross country meet. it was cool and cloudy and the racing was hot. i have not found the complete results (i will post them when i get them). but i do know that mcfarland won the varsity and frosh/soph boys team races. the girls varsity team race was close and i dont know who won.
chris schwartz (foothill) and candace carlson (north) ran away with the individual titles. i spoke to chris a bit and he was please with his race but just missed breaking 15 minutes. he also told me that someone stole his batman cape that he wore at mt sac. he is looking forward to next weekend’s chess tournament (he won a trophy last year) too.
i look forward to him winning a state title. speaking of state titles, i think mcfarland will be getting one this year. they got amazing depth, great coaches and are fierce competitors. it has been a pleasure to be able watch them and chris run this year at many meets.
on thursday, we return for the league meets. the seyl races should be good ones. the highland boys are undefeated and there is a three way tie for second (foothill, bakersfield and liberty). the battle for second behind chris in the individual race should be good too.
on the girls side, foothill is undefeated and bakersfield’s only lost was to foothill. so if bakersfield wins the league meet. then foothill and bakersfield will be co-champs. the individual girls race should be between foothil and bakersfield too.
