Let’s face it. There’s nothing remarkable about finding holiday shoppers standing in line in front of retail malls and big box stores the morning after Thanksgiving.

A line of shoppers waits at the downtown Outer Limits skate shop and clothing retailer Friday morning.
In fact, the annual Black Friday pilgrimage to Target, Mervyns and “the mall” has become as assuringly predictable as Scrooge’s annual visit by the ghost of Christmas past.

But when lines of shoppers stretched down the sidewalk and around the corner in downtown Bakersfield — with no Target store in sight — inquiring minds wanted to know where they were going and why. Read the rest of this entry »

Play It Smart assigns study coaches at Long Beach Poly, Westchester and Los Angeles Crenshaw, using better chance at football opportunities as the incentive.
By Lauren Peterson, Los Angeles Times Staff Writer
September 19, 2007

Kyle Byrdsong and Marcus Falanai sat at separate tables near the front of the Long Beach Poly football team’s film room, each hunched over a textbook and doing his best to decipher the intricacies of algebra.

At another table, near two large and noisy fans that stood opposite a wall with the words “Study, Work and Play Like a Champion” painted on it, Daveon Akinsanya and Garry Phillips were punching numbers into calculators as they pored over a physics assignment.

The famed British band lets fans decide what to pay for a new release online.

The great riddle facing the record industry in the digital age has been pricing. Napster and its ilk puckishly offered music for “free” in the late 1990s, and the major labels have largely clung to an average of $13 for CDs despite plummeting sales and seasons of downsizing.

Now, one of the world’s most acclaimed rock bands, Radiohead, is answering that marketplace riddle with a shrug. “It’s up to you,” reads a message on the Web page where fans can pre-order the band’s highly anticipated seventh album and pay whatever they choose, including nothing.

dyestatcal coverage HERE

nike has a great meeting building in culver city. it is like an art gallery. the front lobby is huge and this time it was full of baseball memorbillia. last time it had running stuff.

first off, nike serves us some finger food and refreshments and we get to mingle. in this room, we also get to checkout their new shoes, uniforms and other accessories.

then we went to the screening room and they told us about their new shoes and other products. i like that they admit that they lost their focus on running and that now they are really trying to reconnect with the running community.

all their new shoes looked great and so did the watches and the sunglasses. they even gave us one of the triax watches. we can also buy some as a team and get a really good deal on them.

i gave coach the watch nike gave me. so now he has a stopwatch.

nike also told us about their national championship which sounds really cool.

watch details:

The Triax Running Series is designed to provide innovation and insight to the true runner. Our newest features are incorporated in an extra-large display to keep you on pace for your goals, and keep them in clear view.
